- AFSPA was enacted in 1958; under Section 3, the Governor of a State, the Administrator of a Union Territory or the Central Government can declare an area 'disturbed'. (26 September 2026)
- In Naga People's Movement of Human Rights v. Union of India (1997), the Supreme Court upheld AFSPA but required disturbed-area declarations to be reviewed periodically, before six months expire. (26 September 2026)
- Manipur's Home Minister told the Assembly that the State will pursue with the Centre an NRC update using 1951 as the base year. (8 September 2026)
- Section 14A of the Citizenship Act, 1955, inserted by the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2003, empowers the Centre to compulsorily register citizens and maintain a National Register of Indian Citizens. (8 September 2026)
