India-EU Free Trade Agreement
In one line: Trade policy is an exclusive competence of the European Union, so India's trade with Poland is governed by India-EU arrangements.
Where it stands
The India-Poland joint statement welcomed the India-EU Summit of 27 January 2026, the India-EU Security and Defence Partnership of January 2026 and the conclusion of the EU-India FTA negotiations. It called for the agreement's early signing, ratification and implementation.
Why it matters for Poland ties
The goal of doubling India-Poland trade by 2030 is tied to lower tariffs and clearer rules that the FTA would bring.
Background
India and the EU earlier negotiated a Broad-based Trade and Investment Agreement (BTIA) from 2007, which stalled before talks were relaunched.
